The Discovery

Jim and Penny Caldwell Discovers of the Split Rock of Horeb.

Keeping one’s self going is a difficult thing to do. There are a million distractions that occur every day and that can mean that we do not stay on track with what we should be doing. Self-motivation is something that does not come easy to a lot of people and that means that there are some steps that need to be taken before you can become motivated to the fullest extent.

Of course, there are some other matters that first need to be taken care of. If there are a lot of distractions that keep you from doing what you need to be doing then you need to make some changes. This is really the first step towards becoming self-motivated in any form.

First Encounters: THE SPLIT ROCK

The film you are about to see is the actual video Jim took when we discovered the Split Rock for the first time. We had been unsuccessful in getting any film or photos from inside the fence at the base of Jebel Maqla (Mt. Sinai) on two previous trips, so we had determined to go all the way around the mountain range and actually climb up and over the ridge so that we would come down inside the fence. Armed with only eyesight and a compass as GPS was unavailable then, we traveled too far west to accomplish what we’d hoped, although we did not realize that at the time. But as we entered into the valley to begin our trek south, we saw in the distance this prominent rock that upon inspection, we named the Split Rock for obvious reasons. This film is original Hi8 footage from that very initial first encounter, complete with our conversation from that time. We hope you enjoy!
